Mexico city to hire attractive women to police ocean resorts

New Mexico: Authorities in the Mexican state of Guerrero, known for its popular ocean resorts, will hire attractive, model-type young women to serve in local tourist police, the state's Public Security Minister Ramon Almonte Borja said.

The women, aged 18-35, will work with federal police mainly at resorts in Acapulco to provide security for foreign tourists and to help them resolve common tourist problems.

"The requirements for potential candidates are rather demanding," Borja told journalists Tuesday. "Aside from good looks, they must be at least high-school graduates and speak foreign languages".

Borja said a special uniform is being designed for them, which would be as recognisable as that of the London "bobbies".

The move is a part of Mexico's effort to boost foreign tourism, which is the third largest source of foreign currency income in the country after oil export revenues and money transfers from Mexican immigrants.

Tourism industry provides jobs for about six million Mexicans and last year brought $12 billion in revenues to the country's budget.

Mexico is planning to be among the top five most visited countries by 2020 with an annual tourist turnover of about 55 million.
