New Delhi: The Cricket World Cup 2015 was officially declared open at Hagley Park in Christchurch, New Zealand on Thursday.
As Australia and New Zealand welcomes the ICC Cricket World Cup after a wait of 23 years, the ceremony not just saw a kaleidoscope of fireworks but also a gathering of innumerable fans for the much awaited sport. Australia has left no stone unturned to make it a magnificent ceremony before the cricketing battle begins.
The Doodle depicts an umpire, a bowler, two batsmen, a fielder and a wicketkeeper in a colorful display.
Bringing together the whole of cricket fraternity on one platform to cheer and play, the 11th edition of the cricket tournament will see 14 teams batting and bowling away to glory for the World Cup.
The game begins today with a match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand at Christchurch while Melbourne Cricket Ground will see a game between Australia and England later in the day.
This World Cup not only includes first-timers like Afghanistan but it also has some breathtaking matches in store for the cricket-lovers. The India-Pakistan match which will take place on Sunday will be one of them.
A total of 49 matches will be played from February 14 to March 29.
