Political uncertainty grips Assam after senior Congress leader Bhupen Kumar Borah signalled his possible exit from the party, triggering speculation of a switch to the BJP. Borah has cited lack of coordination and delayed decision-making within the Congress, saying he may step aside to protect his "self-respect." He has sought a day's time before taking a final decision.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has backed Borah, calling him a valuable leader and confirming discussions with him and Rahul Gandhi. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also weighed in, criticising "dynasty politics" as speculation mounts over Borah's next move.
