Tension has escalated across West Bengal after the killing of Chandranath Rath, close aide and personal assistant to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari. Rath was shot dead at point-blank range in Madhyamgram late at night. BJP leaders have alleged it was a pre-planned political murder and blamed the All India Trinamool Congress. Protests erupted in several areas, with BJP workers blocking highways in West Midnapore. CCTV visuals reportedly captured the final moments before the attack, while police say the assailants escaped on motorcycles and the vehicle used carried a fake number plate. TMC has condemned the killing and demanded a court-monitored CBI probe.
