Reacting to the Supreme Court of India’s decision to dismiss a bail plea, a Senior Supreme Court advocate said the court decides cases based on the records before it and must have found grounds to distinguish between different matters. Referring to the continued detention of Sharjeel Imam and Umar Khalid, the advocate pointed to past Supreme Court rulings which note that long incarceration should weigh in favour of granting bail, adding that “there is no recompense for liberty once lost.”
