Tamil Nadu Jailbreak: 17 Inmates Escape After Faking Medical Emergency, 13 Caught

A major security breach at Thekkampatti sub-jail in Tamil Nadu's Theni district has raised serious questions about prison security and staff vigilance. Seventeen inmates escaped on Monday night after allegedly staging a medical emergency by claiming that a fellow prisoner was suffering an epileptic seizure. As prison staff responded, the inmates reportedly overpowered warders and fled through the main entrance, leaving three personnel injured. Police have secured 13 of the 17 escapees, while the search continues for four others. Nine prison staff members have reportedly been suspended. The incident has triggered a political controversy and revived memories of the 1995 Vellore prison breakout, raising questions about security arrangements in the state's prisons.
