Even though the BJP wrested Himachal Pradesh from the Congress with a big margin, winning 44 of the state's 68 seats, its chief ministerial candidate PK Dhumal lost to his Congress opponent Rajendra Singh Rana by about 2,000 votes. The final result for the Sujanpur seat came around midnight, but Mr Dhumal had conceded defeat much earlier in the day.
