A region once known for red terror is now celebrating a different shade of red. Strawberries—once unknown here—are bringing joy to farmers, generating bumper incomes. Mulchera’s hilly terrain offers a climate similar to Mahabaleshwar, a region famous for its strawberry cultivation. What began as an experiment by the district agriculture department to support local farmers—at a time when the region was emerging from the shadow of Left-Wing Extremism (LWE)—has now turned into a success story, with more farmers adopting the crop. The strawberry variety grown here has been sourced from the neighbouring Rajnandgaon district in Chhattisgarh.
