India's Water Crisis: Dried Up Reservoirs, Failed Crops

In normal years, the fertile sugarcane belt of Mandya is a feast for the eyes. Green sugarcane and brilliant green paddy. But water scarcity this year means that it was not worth planting much of the January paddy - and the farmers who went ahead with sugarcane are watching their crops dry in the field. The situation isn't far better in Marathwada which has dried up reservoirs, failed crops. Maharashtra is reeling from water crisis even before the scorching summer has even fully set in. We travel to Mandya and Beed to bring you this ground report showing how grim the situation really is.
