The now-scrapped Parandur airport project has resurfaced as a political flashpoint in Tamil Nadu, with Chief Minister Vijay defending his long-standing opposition to the proposal. Citing concerns over multi-crop agricultural land, water bodies, environmental impact and displacement of local communities, Vijay had consistently backed protesting farmers and called for a more farmer-centric alternative site for the airport.
