Dr Ashok Gulati, Infosys Chair Professor for Agriculture at ICRIER, tells NDTV that farmers have suffered for 2 consecutive seasons and this year too fruits and vegetables could be a cause of concern. He says there is a need to address the issues in the agriculture sector as growth in the sector has been less than 2 per cent. He also says higher MSPs only help large farmers and certain states and the government must give food and fertiliser subsidy as DBT through the Jan Dhan scheme.
