NDTV World explains how the flash floods unfolded. At 8:37 am on August 26, ice and rock collapsed near the Nepal-China border. The debris, ice, mud, and massive boulders crashed into the Thame Khola dam on the river. Water began building up behind this natural dam of ice and rock. Timure and Syaurbesi were among the first major settlements hit by the surging floodwaters. The natural dam then collapsed, sending a deadly wall of mud, boulders and ice racing downstream. The surge continued towards Nuwakot, leaving a trail of destruction in its path. And the G216 National Highway was transformed into a major impact zone.
