Gujarat News | 'Spring Fans' Installed In VNSGU Hostel Following Directives To Prevent Suicides

Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) in Surat has installed 388 anti-suicide ceiling fans across its nine hostels as a student safety measure. The specially designed fans use a spring mechanism that tilts the fan downwards and cuts off the electricity supply when a weight exceeding 10 kg is applied. The installation covers five girls' hostels and four boys' hostels, with 170 fans in girls' hostels and 218 in boys' hostels. The initiative comes amid efforts to strengthen student safety and prevent suicides in educational institutions, following directives from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Supreme Court.
