Police have busted an inter state fake currency racket in Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur and arrested two persons with counterfeit notes worth Rs 14,600. The accused had been moving across different districts of the state to circulate fake currency by targeting small shopkeepers. The case came to light after a 74 year old shopkeeper lodged a complaint alleging that two persons cheated him by giving fake Rs 200 notes in exchange for genuine Rs 500 notes. Police analysed CCTV footage, technical surveillance inputs, bank records and location data to identify the vehicle used by the accused. The vehicle was then kept under watch. Acting on the information, a police team intercepted the vehicle near Bilaspur and apprehended the two accused. Hamirpur SP Balbir Singh said the accused have been produced before a court and are being interrogated. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the fake currency and identify other links in the network.
