600 Roads Closed As Himachal Battles Monsoon Havoc; Kullu-Manali Highway Severed

Himachal Pradesh has been officially declared a disaster-hit state by Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, following catastrophic monsoon damage with estimated losses exceeding ₹3,000 crore. The State Disaster Management Authority reports 320 lives lost due to relentless rains, landslides, and flash floods. Over 600 roads remain closed, with major destruction reported on the Kullu-Manali Highway, where torrential rains have completely washed away stretches, isolating the region. The National Highways Authority of India plans to airlift construction equipment to restore access. Numerous hotels near the Beas River, including several in Old Manali, have been swept away.
