An Indian CEO in Vietnam was surprised to see the incredible number of two-wheelers on the streets. While in Vietnam, the tourist recorded a video of a street from his hotel and posted it on X. The video captures a glimpse of the road with moving traffic comprising a few cars and buses but lots of two-wheelers. Vietnam's streets are dominated by motorcycles and mopeds that serve as the primary mode of transport for millions of people. There are also several bike taxi services that provide efficient and cost-effective transportation, especially for solo travellers. The X user, who is a tech influencer, added that he would like to see the same in India.

The post read, "Just landed in Vietnam, checked into my hotel, and was immediately struck by the sheer number of two-wheelers on the road. Vietnam is known as the country of two-wheelers. You can easily explore the city using services like GrabBike."

He added, "Meanwhile, in India, bike taxi services like Rapido are being banned in one state after another. I'm genuinely curious, why is this happening? Aren't bike taxis a more affordable and accessible option for Indian consumers?"

The post drew mixed reactions from social media users:

"It's [bike taxi] massively available in Indonesia as well," a user shared.

"People at least follow lanes and rules and stuff in Vietnam. Nobody does that here so bikes are risky, especially the way these bike taxis ride," an X user wrote.

Another said, "Please enjoy your stay. Why the itch to always compare and pontificate?"

Earlier on June 16, 2025, bike taxi services by app-based aggregators such as Ola, Uber and Rapido were suspended in Karnataka following the High Court's directive. The ban is to remain in place till the state government notifies specific rules and guidelines for 'bike taxis' under the Motor Vehicles Act.

Two-Wheeler Options In Vietnam For Tourists

The streets of Vietnam are full of two-wheelers. Here are three popular choices of two-wheelers for tourists:

1. Cyclo - A Vietnamese-Style Rickshaw

Tourists can hop on a three-wheeled bicycle taxi called cyclo, which consists of single or double seats. It's a spin of the Indian rickshaw, although the customer sits in front of a cyclo and the driver's seat is positioned behind. Cyclo is perfect for a relaxed exploration of the streets of Vietnam and reaching locations tucked away in hidden spots. The cost of a ride is also cheap, around 20000 VND (about Rs 70).
