About Amer Fort

The 16th-century Amer Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is regarded as one of Rajasthan's most iconic landmarks, known for its fusion of Rajput and Mughal architectural styles. Prominent features such as the Sheesh Mahal, Diwan-e-Aam and Ganesh Pol draw visitors from across the world and offer stunning views of the surrounding Maotha Lake.

Beyond its striking facades, Amer Fort is laid out across multiple interconnected courtyards that once served different royal and administrative purposes. Entry into the complex is through grand gateways such as Suraj Pol, which opens into the expansive Jaleb Chowk - a courtyard historically used for ceremonial gatherings and troop assemblies during the Rajput era.

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, who accompanied the Rubio couple during the visit, also shared a glimpse from Jaipur on X. Posting a picture featuring the group at the heritage site, Gor wrote, “Jaipur, the Pink City, where every sunset paints the palaces in hues of rose and gold. Heart of Rajasthan!”

The Jaipur visit came after Rubio's earlier stop at the Taj Mahal in Agra, where he spent around 90 minutes at the monument with his wife and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor. During the visit, he described the iconic mausoleum as “one of the true treasures of the world” in the visitors' book.
