Women Transforming India Awards

Women's participation in armed forces has increased over the years, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Sunday and expressed the view that no door in the forces should remain closed for them.

Union minister Smriti Irani and Niti Aayog Vice Chairman Arvind Panagariya on Tuesday awarded 12 women to recognise the transformational impact of work undertaken by them across India's villages, towns and cities.

Class III student Muskaan Ahirwar, who lives in a slum in Bhopal, is a firm believer in Nelson Mandela's famous quote: "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world".

Three Indians, including two women, have won an inaugural award set up by Queen Elizabeth II to recognise exceptional youths who are transforming the lives of others and making a difference in their communities from across the Commonwealth nations.
