Teesta Setalvad Bank Accounts

The Supreme Court today held that activist Teesta Setalvad and her husband owe an explanation to Gujarat Police for alleged misappropriation of "huge funds" received by their NGOs for the victims of the 2002 riots.

The Supreme Court will take up the pleas filed by social activist Teesta Setalvad and her two controversial NGOs next month, challenging the freezing of their accounts by the Ahmedabad Police for final disposal.

The Home Ministry is changing the rules that govern foreign contribution received by non-governmental organisations, under which, they will now have to maintain their contributory accounts in banks that offer core banking, sources said.
