Tamil Nadu seeks Centre's permission to transport elephant herd
The Tamil Nadu government has written to the Centre seeking permission to transport a six-strong Elephant herd deep inside a forest as it was continuing to roam in Salem and Namakkal districts, forest officials said on Thursday.

Herd of elephants trample worker
A casual labourer was trampled to death on Thursday by a herd of elephants at Thengumarada, about 80 km from Udhagamandalam. Forest department sources said, the 35-year-old man was among a group of labourers going for work, when the herd attacked them. Other workers managed to escape, they said.
