The Supreme Court today asked social activist Swami Agnivesh to approach the High Court for a probe by the CBI or the NIA, into attacks on him in Jharkhand and Delhi.

After social activist Swami Agnivesh was attacked near the BJP headquarters in Delhi on Friday, a case has been filed by the police against unidentified persons.

Swami Agnivesh was surrounded and manhandled today near the BJP office in Delhi, where he had gone to pay his last respects to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. This is the second attack in a month on the 79-year-old social activist, who was earlier beaten in Jharkhand by a mob that allegedly included BJP workers.

Congress lawmaker Shashi Tharoor on Sunday said that Swami Vivekananda, the 19th century spiritual leader who took Indian philosophy to the West, would face violent attacks for endorsing humanity in present day India as he took on the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government.

Social activist Swami Agnivesh has said he will move the Supreme Court over the assault on him last month in Jharkhand. There have been no arrests in the case 18 days after the incident, he said at an event.
