Spain Bans Uber

Popular web-based taxi company Uber has suspended its amateur driver service in Spain after it received confirmation of a court ruling to ban it in the country.

A Spanish judge on December 9 banned the company from operating its UberPOP service in Spain and ordered telecom companies and payment service providers to block it.

Smartphone car-ride service Uber vowed Friday to keep operating in Spain despite a ban following a lawsuit by taxi drivers and said it would fight the case in court.

In the same ruling, the judge ordered telecommunications and electronic payment companies to ban Uber transactions.
