Demolition Drive Aims to Reclaim Encroached Lake in Bengaluru

Authorities in Bengaluru have begun a 10-day demolition drive to recover land allegedly encroached from the bed of the Puttenahalli Lake in the southern part of the city. The drive follows demolition notices that had been issued to a number of homes and apartment complexes in the area a month ago.

M P Kumaraswamy, who represents Mudigere (SC) seat in Chikmagalur, told reporters here that he had decided to quit as MLA as he was upset that despite him taking up the issue, the leadership had not addressed his grievances.

A new food programme would be introduced for children in Anganwadi Kendras in Karnataka keeping in view local tastes and habits, Women and Child Welfare Minister C C Patil said today. The new programme would be launched in Mysore this week and 45 taluks would be covered in the first phase, the Minister told reporters here.

A 40-year-old government school teacher allegedly died after he fell from the 3rd floor of a private hospital here in the wee hours of Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Laksmaiah, a native of Dasanapura of Nelamangala Taluk who was working a government school teacher at Tattekere.
