The Shiv Sena on Saturday questioned the safety of Mumbai after the implementation of GST Bill, even as Maharashtra Legislative Council unanimously passed the Maharashtra Goods and Services Tax (compensation to the Local Authorities) Act 2017.

Maharashtra Congress president and lawmaker Ashok Chavan today criticised Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray for red-flagging certain provisions of the draft State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) bill despite the Shiv Sena earlier welcoming the passage of the GST bill in Lok Sabha.

The landmark national services tax which is to be introduced in July has still not got the approval of the Shiv Sena, a key member of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's coalition government. The Goods and Services Tax or GST, which replaces a jumble of levies, often varying from one state to another, has been made law by parliament.
