Sainik School Admits Girls

Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt, replying to a question, said six to 10 girl cadets have been admitted in Class 6 for the first time in each of the existing Sainik Schools.

More Sainik Schools will be opened for girl students, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his Independence Day speech at the Red Fort today. Sainik Schools, which used to admit only boys, are open to girls now.

"After the success of pilot Project for admission of girl cadets in Sainik School Chhingchhip, Mizoram...the government has decided to admit girl cadets along with boys in all Sainik Schools from the academic session 2021-22," Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik said in Lok Sabha.

For the first time in the country, a Sainik School in Lucknow has opened its doors for girls. As many as 15 girls from different family backgrounds have got admission in the Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey Uttar Pradesh Sainik School here in class 9 for the academic year 2018-19.
