Safer Roads For India

The Yamuna in Delhi has exceeded the evacuation mark of 206 metres, prompting the relocation of people residing in flood-prone areas to safer locations and a closure of the Old Railway Bridge for road and rail traffic, officials said today.

Intel has launched its Onboard Fleet Management Services solution for India which has the sole intent of making commercial vehicles safer on the roads and more efficient for its customers.

The non-profit organisation has been working towards advocating helmet safety in India and the partnership with Royal Enfield aims to promote road safety as well as change the perspective towards it.

The Centre amended the Motor Vehicle Act to add cash incentives and identity protection for Good Samaritans that help road accident victims. However, the states are yet to implement the same.

The draft proposal includes mandating a crash helmet for kids between nine months and four years as well as a safety harness that will attach the child to the rider. The ministry also plans to limit vehicle speed to under 40 kmph for two-wheelers with kids.

The initiative is aimed to encourage more riders to wear a helmet on a two-wheeler in Nashik and will be implemented across all fuel stations in the city.

Under the plan, a suggestion has also been received for auto-debit of the fine from the account of the violator.
