Former Haryana police chief SPS Rathore, held guilty of molesting teenager Ruchika Girhotra who committed suicide in 1993, will not have to go back to jail, the Supreme Court said today.

A special CBI court in Chandigarh has today directed the lower court to hear afresh an earlier appeal filed by family friend Anand Prakash in the Ruchika Girhotra case.

Ruchika Girhotra's family has reportedly withdrawn charges against former Deputy General of Police (DGP) of Haryana SPS Rathore. They have told the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that they have no objection to closing of the case. The CBI had filed a closure report in the case around 20 months back.
