The Nepal government has banned the use of Indian currency notes of Rs 2,000, Rs 500 and Rs 200 denominations, according to a media report.

The new banknote of Rs. 100 denomination will be of the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series, RBI said, adding that it will bear the motif of Rani Ki Vav - a heritage site located in Gujarat - on the reverse side.

New lavender-coloured Rs 100 currency notes will soon be issued by the Reserve Bank of India as part of the revised design series introduced after demonetisation in 2016.

"The coins of the denominations (Rs 100 and Rs 5) shall also be coined at the Mint for issue under the authority of the Central Government to commemorate the occasion of Dr M G Ramachandran's birth centenary," a notification from the Ministry of Finance stated.

"The Reserve Bank will shortly issue Rs 100 denomination banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005, with the inset letter R in both the number panels, bearing the signature of Dr Urjit R Patel, Governor, Reserve Bank of India," RBI said in a notification.
