Sunita Sitoula is one of the lucky few who was literally pulled out from under a heap of rubble on Tuesday night without suffering any injuries at all. She was rescued alive by India's National Disaster Response Force personnel yesterday after being trapped under debris for 50 hours.

Opposition AIADMK today urged the Centre to take up relief and rescue work in cyclone Thane devasted Puducherry as the government had 'failed' to take up enumeration on the damage in coastal areas and not even finalised any report on relief for the affected sections.

China: Rescue work terminated in a mine, no hope for survivors

After two weeks of efforts, the Chinese authorities today terminated their operations to rescue 23 workers trapped in a flooded coal mine in Guizhou Province after concluding that they were unlikely to be alive.
