Psyche Spacecraft

Earth has received a mysterious signal from deep space, American space agency NASA has revealed. The signal, which originated approximately 140 million miles away.

The experiment was made possible by the Deep Space Optical Communications (DSOC) tool which was travelling onboard NASA's Psyche spacecraft.

Last week NASA launched a spacecraft to rendezvous with Psyche. The mission will take a six-year, 3.6 billion kilometre journey to gather clues.

NASA on Friday launched a spacecraft from Florida on its way to Psyche, the largest of the several metal-rich asteroids known in our solar system and a body thought to be the remnant core of an ancient protoplanet.

The Psyche spacecraft is targeted to travel to the asteroid using solar-electric (low-thrust) propulsion, following a Mars flyby and gravity assist.
