The Supreme Court-mandated EPCA has suggested stricter implementation of the top court's directions to curb stubble burning, implementation of parking policy and massive augmentation of public transport in Delhi-NCR to control air pollution in the coming years.

The Supreme Court-mandated anti-pollution authority Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority or EPCA today said dirty fuel-based industries in Delhi and its suburbs will remain shut till November 11.

As the Delhi-NCR faces a public health emergency due to severe deterioration in air quality, the Supreme Court will consider on Monday a special pollution control report filed by a panel appointed by it, the EPCA, and other issues including pollution caused by stubble-burning in the neighbouring states.

Supreme Court-appointed Environment Pollution Control Authority Chairperson Bhure Lal Saturday said he visited various pollution hotspots in Delhi and found rampant illegal polluting activities especially garbage burning taking place in these areas.

Supreme Court-appointed Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) will call a meeting specifically for industries in Delhi to discuss the progress from shifting from coal to natural gas, as it noted that the "ease of breathing" cannot be compromised for the "ease of business".

As Delhi continues to struggle with "severe" air pollution levels, the chairman of the Supreme Court-empowered environment body to keep the air pollution levels under check has requested the people in the national capital to not use their diesel vehicles.

The Centre has reconstituted Supreme Court-empowered Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority or the EPCA, which is tasked with taking various measures to tackle air pollution in the National Capital Region. The tenure of the last EPCA expired on October 3.
