Odisha Accident Rescue Operations

Odisha Chief Secretary PK Jena said his government has no intention to hide the deaths in the Balasore train crash and the entire rescue operation was being conducted in full public view.

After a crash involving three trains killed 261 people in Odisha last evening, questions are being raised about possible operational lapses that could have contributed to the tragedy.

NDRF Director General (DG) Atul Karwal told news agency PTI that his teams are working in coordination with the Odisha state government and railway authorities.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday said a high-level committee will investigate the Odisha train tragedy that left 233 people dead and 900 injured. He added that the entire focus is on rescue for now.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) DIG Manoj Kumar Yadav on Friday said search operations were underway inside the derailed passenger train coaches in Odisha's Balasore and the primary focus was on mobilising emergency rescue and relief.
