Nadda On Encephalitis

Union Minister J P Nadda on Sunday directed the Director of National Centre for Disease Control or NCDC to visit Kerala's Kozhikode district to assist the state government in the wake of death of three people due to Nipah virus there.

The Centre on Wednesday declared Japanese Encephalitis (JE) as a notifiable disease and asked states to ensure that all health care providers inform local authorities about such cases, a move aimed at reducing the transmission of the disease and stopping it from spreading to newer areas.

Encephalitis, which claims hundreds of lives every year in eastern India, will be made a notifiable disease, the government announced in the Lok Sabha today amid concerns expressed by members over "failure" to check it despite years of efforts.
