Muslim Denied Job

Delhi Police has arrested journalist Pushp Sharma for allegedly fabricating an RTI reply to publish a news report claiming that the government was discriminating against Muslims and denying them jobs of yoga trainers in the AYUSH Ministry.

The US Supreme Court on Monday ruled in favour of a Muslim woman who sued for discrimination after being denied a sales job at age 17 at an Abercrombie & Fitch Co clothing store in Oklahoma because she wore a head scarf for religious reasons.

Just a week after she moved into an apartment in Mumbai, Misbah Qadri, a communications professional, was asked out. "I was told that they do not give flats to Muslim people," she says.

On Tuesday, Zeshan Ali Khan applied for a marketing job with a multi-national jewellery exports company in Mumbai. Within 15 minutes, he received an email that said: "We regret to inform you that we hire only non-Muslim candidates."

The Supreme Court said Thursday it will consider whether retailer Abercrombie & Fitch discriminated against a Muslim woman who was denied a job because her headscarf conflicted with the company's dress code, which the clothing chain has since changed.
