A crypto scammer reportedly connected with a Mumbai-based woman on a matrimonial site last year and stole Rs. 24 lakh from her. The conman told the victim that he was a US-based engineer, convinced her to invest in a crypto firm. He later connected her to a ‘guide’, who was set up to assist the woman with her investments.

An offence was registered on Thursday against a man who was arrested for cheating a businessman for Rs 3.7 crore and fled from the crime branch custody, but was later caught, an official said.

41-year-old man was arrested today from Ghansoli in Navi Mumbai for his alleged involvement in a string of theft cases, police said. 3 jewelers have also been arrested for buying stolen jewellery from the accused, they said.

Although he handed over the money to the man himself, he told the police that he had no conrol over his actions and remembers little of what had happened.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) have arrested a 61-year-old who would cheat foreigners and NRIs by befriending them, only to flee with their valuables. The police have till now recovered valuables of five foreigners from the accused.
