Mullaiperiyar Dam Issue

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee today passed resolutions against the governments of Karnataka and Kerala for not implementing the Supreme Court order in the Cauvery water and Mullaiperiyar dam issues respectively.

A Retired PWD Chief Engineer has filed a PIL in the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court seeking to regulate visitors to the Mullaiperiyar dam and ensure safety of the reservoir over which Tamil Nadu and Kerala are locked in dispute. A Division bench of Justice Chitra Venkataraman and Justice R.Karuppiah posted it for hearing on February 23.

Monday's peak-hour traffic rush came to a grinding halt following Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's whistle-stop visit to the city and actor-politician Vijayakanth's bid to greet him with black flags in protest against the Centre's alleged dilly-dallying on the Mullaiperiyar dam issue.
