Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav today said he did not become the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh after his party got absolute majority in 2012 so that he could spend more time with party workers and keep a tab on the working of the government.

Politically vibrant Uttar Pradesh will ring the curtain down on 2015 after a tug-of-war between Raj Bhawan and Akhilesh Yadav government on Lokayukta issue and the horrific Dadri lynching, even as ruling Samajwadi Party pulled up its socks for Assembly polls a year away.

Days after the Dadri killing, Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav said those behind the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots were involved in this case too. The conspiracy, he said, had been hatched by "three persons of a specific party" and the state will take stern action against the accused, "even if we have to sacrifice the government".

The Congress today accused the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh and the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre of turning a blind eye to the plight of minorities.
