The Global Tuberculosis Report released by the World Health Organisation highlights the problem in India's battle with the disease. The results show that number of TB cases rose largely because researchers found that earlier estimates in India, from 2000-2015, were far too low.

A study based on a retrospective analysis of patient data at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi has revealed a 12 per cent increase in the incidence of multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) in India between 2000 and 2012. Nearly 15,000 patients were subject to mycobacterial culture during the study.
