The West Bengal government today approached a local court in Kolkata, against payment of compensation to the Jadavpur University professor who was arrested for forwarding an email with a cartoon that allegedly lampooned Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The Calcutta High Court has today ordered the Mamata Banerjee government to give Prof Ambikesh Mahapatra, who was arrested in 2012 for forwarding a cartoon of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the compensation decreed by the state Human Rights Commission and an additional Rs 25,000 for legal expenses.

After the controversial cartoon case, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee now seems to have taken offence to some of her pictures posted on Facebook.
