Thanjavur District Small and Tiny Industries Association and the Federaton of industries and traders associations held a demonstration demanding reduction in the existing power cut and steps to commission the Koodankulam nuclear power plant.

The four-member committee set up by Tamil Nadu Government virtually gave a clean chit to the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KNPP), saying it was well-equipped to withstand natural calamities, be it earthquake or tsunami.

The Centre today welcomed constitution of an expert committee by Tamil Nadu Government to look into the safety aspects of the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant and allay the fears of locals which would help its commissioning.

Amid the logjam over Koodankulam nuclear power project, a senior anti-KNPP functionary today threatened to file a criminal defamation case against MoS in the Prime Minister's Office V Narayanasamy for allegedly charging him with receiving money from foreign sources.

Strongly batting for early commissioning of the Kudankulam nuclear power project, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Saturday said the Centre was probing the flow of funds allegedly received by the anti-project activists and would take strong action if the money came in a "wrong way".

A special Home Ministry team has found that some organisations involved in the protests against the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant had received funds to the tune of over Rs 55 crore from "foreign sources ".
