Four fishermen struggling to stay afloat in rough seas for over two hours after their boat capsized off Kodiakarai coast in the Nagapattinam, were rescued by other fishermen and brought ashore.

About a 100 fishermen from Tamil Nadu's Nagapattinam District have alleged that they were attacked and looted by an unidentified armed gang from Sri Lanka while fishing off the Kodiakarai coast on Thursday.

In two separate incidents, six fishermen, who were struggling in sea off Kodiakarai coast in the district, have been rescued and brought to the shores today.

Seven fishermen from the Nagapattinam district were injured in an alleged attack by their Sri Lankan counterparts in Indian waters off Kodiakarai coast, officials said today.

Twenty-six Indian fishermen, who were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on April 5 while fishing off Kodiakarai coast, returned this morning after their release, fisheries department officials said.

A 20-ft long whale, found battling for life after it got stranded in shallow waters near an islet about 15 kms off Kodiakarai coast near Nagapattinam yesterday, was let into the sea today, official sources said.

As many as 281 olive ridleys, hatched in the artificial hatchery run by Forest Department at Kodiakarai, were let into the sea.
