The BSE Sensex and Nifty edged higher on Friday but faced pressure at higher levels. Analysts say that the Nifty is likely to encounter strong hurdle at 8300 levels.

Shares of Kaveri Seeds jumped by around 7 per cent on Wednesday after the company announced that it has opened a new plant in Telangana.

Shares of fertiliser, irrigation systems and agri machinery manufacturers were in limelight today, rising as much as 10.6 per cent, after the government said monsoon this year is expected to be normal.

Hemen Kapadia, senior vice president of KR Choksey Securities, says the Nifty is unlikely to sustain above 7,250. A break below 7,200 could send the index lower to 7,100 before expiry, he added.

Manav Chopra, head technical analyst at Networth Stock Broking, says the Nifty has managed to find support at 7,850 and after some consolidation around 7,940-7,970, the index could take out 8,100-8,150 over next few weeks. He, however, adds that the markets are still in a medium-term downtrend.

The company had posted a net profit of Rs 33.52 crore in the year-ago period.

Kaveri Seed Company on Thursday reported that its net profit for the first quarter of FY16 fell 5.19 per cent to Rs 218.43 crore and its total income declined 20 per cent to Rs 666.11 crore.

The foreign shareholding through Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs)/Registered Foreign Portfolios Investors (RFPIs) in Kaveri Seed Company Ltd has reached the trigger limit, the RBI said in a notification.

HSBC has initiated coverage of Indian agricultural sector with 'overweight' ratings for seed supplier Kaveri Seed Company and agrochemical firm PI Industries Ltd citing their "growth profiles, favourable sector trends and attractive valuations".

The company has seven processing plants spread across Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, Kaveri's annual report for 2012-2013 shows.
