A journalist from Haryana's Hisar district has been charged with defamation and illegal trespassing by the police for reporting on mishandling of grains at a government storage facility, in the latest blow to press freedom in the country.

A California jury found journalist Matthew Keys guilty on three criminal counts related to helping members of the Anonymous hacking collective gain access to a former employer's computers, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Department of Justice said on Wednesday.

The United States Friday urged China to free Chinese journalist Gao Yu and said her jailing was "part of a disturbing pattern" of actions against those who question Beijing's policies.
