Jharkhand Coal Mine Accident

Five people have been confirmed dead after a pile of waste collapsed over locals trying to lift coal from an abandoned open cast mine owned by state-run Coal India Ltd in Jharkhand, police said on Wednesday.

With the recovery of two more bodies on Sunday, the death toll in the coal mine collapse at Lalmatia open cast coal mine climbed to 18. Operations at the mine were being run by Eastern Coalfields Ltd (ECL) in Jharkhand's Godda district.
