Election panel refuses to intervene in Jagan's arrest

The Election Commission of India on Tuesday refused to intervene in YSR Congress Party leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy's arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), party sources said. The commission conveyed the YSR Congress Party's honorary President Vijayamma that since the matter was in court, it would not intervene, the sources said.

Jagan Mohan Reddy, chief of the YSR Congress, will spend the next 14 days in a jail in Hyderabad. And his mother and party honorary chief YS Vijayamma has decided to lead the party's campaign for the June 12 by-elections for the 18 Assembly segments and one Lok Sabha seat in Andhra Pradesh. She will start campaigning from tomorrow.

Jagan, as he is popularly known is the son of late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy. He is allotted prisoner number 6,093 after he was sent to judicial custody for 14 days by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in the disproportionate assets case.
