The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday transferred 16 IAS officers, including Hathras District Magistrate Praveen Kumar Laxkar, under whose jurisdiction the case of the 19-year-old Dalit woman who was raped and murdered, was being handled.

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Monday reserved its order in the Hathras case, while expressing concern over the Uttar Pradesh government not taking any action against District Magistrate Pravin Kumar.

A day after meeting the family of a Dalit woman who died after she was assaulted and allegedly gang-raped in Hathras, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday demanded removal of the district magistrate and an investigation into his role in the entire matter.

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati today attacked the Uttar Pradesh government for not taking action against Hathras District Magistrate despite serious allegations of "threats and pressure" levelled against the officialby the family of the 20-year-old woman whowas allegedly gang raped in the village.

The family of the woman, who died days after being gang raped and tortured in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras, has alleged "threats and pressure" from a senior district official who visited them today. A video of the Hathras District Magistrate (DM) speaking to the family has been widely shared since it emerged online.

The Hathras district administration on Tuesday announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family of a Dalit woman, who died in a Delhi hospital while undergoing treatment after her alleged gang-rape and brutal physical assault in a village near Hathras.
