The strike by tourist taxis in Goa ended today after Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar assured taxi operators that they would get more time to install speed governors in their vehicles.

In a stern warning to striking tourist taxi operators, Transport Minister Sudin Dhavalikar on Friday said if the "illegal" strike is not withdrawn by Saturday, the state government will invite taxi aggregators like Uber and Ola to operate in Goa.

Taxi operators on Friday kept their vehicles off the roads of Goa despite the state government on Thursday invoking the Essential Services Management Act (ESMA) prohibiting the strike.

Taxi operators in Goa will observe a strike on January 19 with unions claiming it has been called to protest the installation of speed governors in their vehicles as well as harassment by police and transport authorities.
