Dumping Of Municipal Solid Waste In Yamuna

"You are government of Uttar Pradesh. You cannot protect the Taj Mahal from which you are making millions. You are dumping municipal solid waste in Yamuna just behind Taj Mahal."

The National Green Tribunal today came down heavily on the civic bodies in Agra district of Uttar Pradesh over rampant dumping of municipal solid waste on the floodplains of Yamuna near Taj Mahal leading to stagnation of water in the river.

The rampant dumping of municipal solid waste in Yamuna near Taj Mahal leading to stagnation of water in the river and consequent formation of greenish-black pigments on the iconic white marble due to breeding of an insect has caught the attention of the National Green Tribunal which on Monday sought reply from the Centre on the issue.
