Coronavirus In Iit Madras

With a continuous surge in COVID-19 cases at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, 11 more infections were reported today taking the total number of infected people up to 182, informed Tamil Nadu Health Secretary.

Tamil Nadu on Thursday reported 39 fresh COVID-19 cases, pushing the caseload to 34,53,390 as the state continued to witness an increasing trend.

With 2,380 new coronavirus infections, India's tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 4,30,49,974 on Thursday, while the active cases increased to 13,433, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

Eight more students of IIT-Madras have tested positive for coronavirus, pushing the total cases at the premier engineering institute to 191. The latest cases emerged after 141 people were tested yesterday amid a spurt in coronavirus cases at the institute this week.

IIT Madras has temporarily shut down its departments, centres, labs and the library citing Covid spurt in hostels according to an email sent to students which NDTV has accessed.

The DST has developed it in collaboration with ''Modulus Housing, the start-up incubated by IIT Madras. They have come up with a solution using a decentralised approach to detect, manage and treat COVID-19 patients in local communities through portable microstructures.
