China is planning a mega dam in Tibet able to produce triple the electricity generated by the Three Gorges -- the world's largest power station -- stoking fears among environmentalists and in neighbouring India.

China's parliament on Thursday adopted the 14th Five-Year Plan, the mega blueprint containing billions of dollars worth of projects, including the controversial hydropower project on the Brahmaputra river in Tibet close to the Arunachal Pradesh border over which India has raised concerns.

China will build a major hydropower project on Brahmaputra river in Tibet and a proposal for this has been clearly put forward in the 14th Five-Year Plan to be implemented from next year, the official media on Sunday quoted the head of a Chinese company tasked to build the dam as saying.

Members of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile are visiting Mumbai to create awareness about the environmental degradation in Tibet due to China's activities in the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) or the Tibetan Plateau.

Earlier this week, China officially stated the Siang River in Arunachal Pradesh may have turned muddy due to a series of earthquakes in Tibet in November. Beijing also alerted India of possible massive floods in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam due to the formation of massive landslide dams that might burst.
